- How Scammers Get Into Your Bank Account
What You Need to Know
You receive an email stating that you have a billing charge of a few hundred dollars, though you don’t remember making this purchase. Still, you panic and don’t check your bank account and instead reach out to the support line listed in the email. After talking for a few minutes, they insist that they will run the charge but they need to connect to your computer to show you how to start the process of the refund. Within a few minutes of being connected, they will have had all the information needed to steal the money from your bank.
What You Should Do
- Be mindful of scare tactics, and check your personal accounts for a charge. If the charge is not there, you can immediately know its a scam.
- Never allow someone to connect to your computer to start a refund.
- Check the email address. The entire email may appear to be legit, but in reality the address will always have some sort of random number and letters or small difference.
